Neither Hillary nor Trump will do.

stein123Lesser evilism predictably produces a pair of candidates each cycle who are both worse than was the more evil candidate last time. This cannot go on forever, and has already gone too far. We need a nonviolent movement to reform our election system — something not done through elections. But there are plenty of good candidates, such as Jill Stein, to check or write in. We should vote for those good candidates and get right back to work on improving the world.”

wareconomyThis is the essence of the problem. Whichever of these two you were to vote for, you’d get wars, nasty policies toward immigrants, plutocratic policies toward wealth, and destructive policies toward the natural environment — barring the arising of a powerful popular movement to bring the government under control.

We cannot continue unprovoked American aggression for profit. Everyday people are the only ones who can stop this insanity. We may not be in
the Millionaires Club, but everyday Americans are the 99% and we have the power.  Profiteers, war-cons and criminals who refuse to secure the peace and will undue this nation are only the 1%.
We can wake up the people and take back the planet with the Green New Deal. With Dr. Jill Stein as the next American president, we can secure the peace, rebuild the nation and restore the planet. Our lives are in our hands.
Before 2030 we will be bankrupt, in retreat from more than 800 military bases, with rising seas and nuclear meltdowns.  When hundreds of nuclear sites are submerged, this will contaminate our already dying seas and it will be all over but the shouting.

Trump and Clinton are nuts.

But Dr. Stein can provide mature leadership and a vetted plan: Stein is level-headed, better-educated, younger, more progressive, and smarter than Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donnie Trump and the last five presidents.
The war-con 1% have been screwing up for 36 years, It’s time to stand up and take it back. Si se puede.

Dr. Cornel West Is Right,
Jill Stein Should Be
America’s First Female President

“Needless to say, Trump and Clinton would lose any debate to Jill Stein, simply because Stein’s policies and value system aren’t based upon money or power. Dr. Stein’s views, from foreign policy to the economy, take a serious look at the state of our nation. She has no corporate interests to appease, and like Bernie, she sticks to her value system at all times.

With the horrific terrorist attack in Nice, France, it’s important to have our next president address the failed war on terror. After the Brussels attacks, Dr. Stein made the following statement:
“As I have stated before, the terrorist attacks are clearly a product of the exploding violence in the Middle East over the past 15 years. Governments have been destabilized and weapons have poured into the hands of extremists. Over a million lives, largely civilians, have been lost in Iraq alone. That carnage enables terrorists to mobilize mass recruiting and rationalize their own horrific, despicable acts. In the last decade, the US-led assaults to achieve regime change have created failed states in which ISIS has flourished. In the process, the US has supplied vast stocks of weapons to the Middle East, including nearly $100 million in weapons sales to Saudi Arabia in recent years.”

“Neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump will become the next president of the United States. It would be wise to repeat that to yourself many times so that you can fully embrace this because this statement is true. …Millions upon millions of the American people do not like or trust these two raging egotists.”
~ Tom Pappalardo

“There’s a cartoon floating around at which a Muslim U.S. voter tries to choose between “Ban my relatives from entering country” and “Bomb the s— out of my relatives.” Not much of a choice, is it? Especially when the bomber is following the model of our current president with his record deportations, and the banner is a loose cannon who’s proposed to kill the families of designated enemies in the Middle East.

Sure, one candidate is a comically ill-informed jackass who hates women, while the other is a woman whose comically jackassy policies will come with great scholarly volumes of ill information. But where does either of those really get us?

Will You Join Me in Voting for Neither Trump Nor Clinton?

I’m committing to not vote for Clinton or Trump, and you can do the same.

Nobody Beats This Record
  • She says President Obama was wrong not to launch missile strikes on Syria in 2013.
  • She pushed hard for the overthrow of Qadaffi in 2011.
  • She supported the coup government in Honduras in 2009.
  • She has backed escalation and prolongation of war in Afghanistan.
  • She voted for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
  • She skillfully promoted the White House justification for the war on Iraq.
  • She does not hesitate to back the use of drones for targeted killing.
  • She has consistently backed the military initiatives of Israel.
  • She was not ashamed to laugh at the killing of Qadaffi.
  • She has not hesitated to warn that she could obliterate Iran.
  • She is not afraid to antagonize Russia.
  • She has the financial support of the arms makers and many of their foreign customers.
  • She waived restrictions at the State Department on selling weapons to Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Qatar, all states wise enough to donate to the Clinton Foundation.
  • She supported President Bill Clinton’s wars and the power of the president to make war without Congress.
  • She has advocated for arming fighters in Syria.
  • She supported a surge in Iraq even before President Bush did.

Dr. Jill Stein is the right choice

“The minute we stand up, we are unstoppable. It’s time to forget the lesser evil and fight for the greater good. The clock is ticking. It’s in our hands.” ~Dr. Jill Stein

Has the time come for creating a public bank in Portland?

Has the time come for creating a public bank in Portland?

Too-Big-To-Fail banks are tied to high risk speculative investing for the benefit of the bank's major stock holders.

Currently, the city's deposits are held by private banking establishments. What could happen if, instead of supporting those banks via our city's use of those banks, we created a locally owned public bank to cycle city revenues back into the local economy? How much additional revenue from such a cycling of city revenues into a city public bank would be generated for investment in affordable and low-income housing, infrastructure and community-based economic development?

Does Bernie Sanders’ Imperialism Matter?

by Shamus Cooke

Critiquing Bernie Sanders from the
left can be a lonely project. There
is a “hope” -powered hysteria sur-
rounding his campaign, an bursting
the “hope” bubble can produce
a fierce backlash.

The Sanders “hope” explosion is so fierce because capitalism has become a hopeless place. Hope can be positive by pushing people into political action, but it’s also exploited by the establishment as shiny bait. Obama, for example, fished for votes using “hope” and reeled in the presidency.

He then clubbed “hope” senseless by betraying his promises, continuing war and maintaining the domestic policies of the 1%. Hope was so thoroughly thrashed that a new messiah of hope was needed to cure the Obama-fortified hopelessness.

Bernie’s version of hope is deeper than Obama’s shallow PR electoral campaign, but under capitalism real “hope” isn’t a simple recipe, and Bernie is missing some key ingredients, most notably “anti-imperialism,” which is exemplified in Bernie’s reactionary foreign policy positions…

The Dynamic Influence of Past Patterns
on the Present

by S Brian Willson

Cultural historians, philosophers, psychologists, essayists, and scientists caution us to seriously understand the past and its pervasive patterns. Sigmund Freud declared that in psychic life, nothing of what has been formed in the past ever disappears. Everything that has occurred is preserved in one way or another and, in fact, reappears under either favorable or unfavorable circumstances.

“The past never leaves us and the future is already here”.
[Lewis Mumford].
“Wherever Western man went slavery, land robbery, lawlessness, culture-wrecking, and the outright extermination of both wild beasts and tame men went with him’.
[Lewis Mumford].

“The West has ravaged the world for five hundred years, under the flag of master-slave theory which in our finest hour of hypocrisy was called ‘the white man’s burden’….
What sets the west apart is its persistence to stop at nothing”.
[Hans Koning].

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”.
[George Santayana].

“Those who control the present,
control the past and those who
control the past control the future”. [George Orwell].

Rupert Sheldrake, biochemist, cell biologist and philosopher, describes a theory similar to psychologist Carl Jung’s collective unconsciousness, or concept of a group mind, a kind of inherited COLLECTIVE memory.
